Times: This is a two day course with both days running from 12:00 to 5pm.
Place: Chartham Village Hall, Canterbury, Kent CT4 7JA
How we work:
Within this course we will employ a wide range of teaching approaches ranging from large and small group discussion; creative methods; somatic awareness and use of nature based metaphor to engage learners and equip them with the resources to develop and practice news skills. We will make full use of the riverside walk during this course.
The CPCAB accredited experiential course covers the following aspects:
- Time for you to reflect on your own relationship with nature
- The psychology of working outdoors
- Looking at how research backs this approach
- How to contract for this work (you will start producing your own contract and information sheet)
- How to work ethically and safely in this area
- Ideas for carrying out the work, directly using the outdoor space creatively. We also give you space to explore how you can adapt your current ways of working and chance to share with other counsellors
- You will practice on the beautiful riverside walk before going live with clients
- This is a CPCAB accredited course
Who is this course for?
This course is for qualified counsellors or for those training to become counsellors. Please note: Trainee counsellors will still need a formal qualification in addition to this training to work as counsellors outdoors.

‘An incredibly useful and inspirational course, underpinned by the expertise and experiences of counsellors who are passionate about the role of walking therapy’ (Ally)
‘This course was fabulous, informative, engaging and such fun. Hilary and Cath worked together so effectively, where we witnessed warmth, humour, respect and such a passion for this subject. Their knowledge was profound… I highly recommend this course because of it’s content but also because of the hosts. I’m really looking forward to future opportunities to learn with Counselling World training courses. Thank you.’ (Jo)
‘I would highly recommend this course. There was such a lovely atmosphere that was created by the tutors. They were really passionate about their subject and this came through in their teaching… The setting was beautiful and provided lots of opportunities to put theory into practice. I came away feeling really positive and excited about walk and talk therapy. Thank you for such a wonderful course.’ (Debbie)

I really enjoyed this course and would recommend it to my fellow counselling friends. I booked on this course as soon as I saw it advertised on Facebook! I am keen to learn new skills and alternatives methods of delivering therapy to clients. I am interested in the other workshops you offer. The pace of the workshop was really easy to follow (John)
